Want to Have a Green Impact? Make a Video

April 11, 2012
I was sent a link to a video that was done for the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Medical School and Center.  The video is short, engaging and makes its point—UCSF is serious about sustainability across the organization and its facilities.  I want everyone to see this, because it’s such a terrific idea to import.  In an earlier blog, I wrote about Green Impact, a sustainability consulting and projects firm in the Bay Area.  Green Impact scripted and produced the video for UC.
Almost any size office could do something similar.  Deborah Fleischer, President of Green Impact, offers five suggestions to creating a successful video in a recent blog posting.   UCSF’s Sustainability website has a link to the sustainability video.  If you have strong executive support for your green program, invite top management to play major roles in the production.  It’s a unique opportunity to connect with staff in a more personal way about an important  priority than a written policy announcement could ever achieve.
Colleges and universities were early adopters of sustainability web pages and UCSF’s is a good example of information to include that is of interest to staff, students, faculty and the general public.  In addition, check out what UCSF is doing to promote sustainability:  http://sustainability.ucsf.edu/.  The medical center and school have adopted many of the best practices recommended by green gurus and discussed by GreenWorksGov over the past two years.
